SM: There were several questions along this line, as you might imagine. I picked this one specifically because I want you to imagine for the last year, me going online and reading all of these ‘Stephenie said this quote quote…’ that I never said. Um, there was quite a bit of mis-quoting going on and I was always, always very careful about how I answered this question because of course, I knew Renesme was on the way and I didn’t want to spoil that and take away some of the excitement of something new happening so I tried to avoid that as much as possible, but when I did I always focused on female vampires because physiologically speaking, there’s a lot of change that goes on when you’re pregnant with a child that couldn’t happen. So when I answered that question, that was all I ever really commented on. It is physically possible [sic: for males vampires], I don’t want to go into it in too much detail. I think what’s going to happen, it’s a whole long thing. I’m guessing, I think it’s going to have to show up somewhere in like the Twilight Saga guide that’s going to come out later.
Question- does this make anyone else feel as if she doesn't really know how it happends? Why won't she go into it in detail?

10 enjoyed the bouquet.:
I am reading the same questions as you this morning. Yeah, I guess we'll need to just "buy into it."
I think she knows; I think she probably didn't want to go into a bird and bees talk in front of a live audience.
I mean, if she's always had this plot worked out in her mind, it would be really weird if she hadn't thought through the logistics.
That isn't to say that I still don't really understand Edward's fertility. I understand her need to protect secrets, but it just seems so out of canon for her vampires.
But I'm re-reading the book, and liking it more, so I think I'll just deal with it.
I am re-reading too and like it 94% better the second time.
I'm sorry, but if you know that this is going to be the MAIN question people are going to ask you, get used to saying "sperm" in public. People want to know! I don't want to wait for another "vampire guide" book to understand this.
hehe! Yes Corrine I do agree with you there! If the topic was going to come up...be prepared for the onslaught of questions regarding it! I do however think she "knows" and maybe someday in the future via her website or other means she will get into the "details" Do I totally understand Edwards ability to impregnate a human...nope...I'll be wait for that just like everyone else!
I thought the "explanation" was total crap. You cant just say that its possible. She really has to say WHY. Especially since she says that women can't carry children. Then why can males make them? This is needed to buy into the storyline.
i think it is absolutely ridiculous that she doesn't answer the question- ugh, ... if I was there I would have probably booed at this answer! (or would have wanted to)
She won't go into detail because she wants people to buy the guide, that's my guess.
alison, i don't get it either. Very strange.
