Blah.

So I started a Young Adult book club for teachers at my school - some of the best connections I make with kids are through books I recommend to them (and discussion that follows) and when I was talking with some other teachers, they mentioned how they wish they knew what to read for YA fiction etc etc, so we had our first meeting today after school.

Guess what our first book was?

Of course it was Twilight! I'm obsessed, after all. So I had about seven female teachers of all ages in my room after school, and NONE OF THEM LOVED IT. A few liked it, a few didn't really like it at all (not enough action blah blah blah) and I just wanted to stand up on top of my desk and yell at them all! How DARE they!? They even went so far as to rib me for my undying love for Edward...

Sigh.

So I had to share with a group that loves it as much as I do. They don't understand. And when it comes down to it, they were all glad they read it just because pretty much every other girl (maybe more) in school and a lot of boys have read it. But it just made me sad that they thought it was too romance-y and boring.

(Side note - a science teacher read it but couldn't make it to the meeting - she loved it and has already read New Moon and Eclipse. So at least I converted one! Yay!)

14 enjoyed the bouquet.:

OH MY GOSH! I can't believe that no one loved it.

What is wrong with these people?

You cannot, I repeat Cannot make friends with them.

Well, maybe you can see it as a litmus test for coolness. Only the cool ones will really appreciate this book for its true glory.

See, this is why I posted this here. Thanks. It's good to know I'm not crazy. They almost made me think I was...almost. (Especially when I was being heckled for taking my personal day to meet SM...and when I was driving home, still noticing hot guys in shiny silver cars...)

And I won't make friends with them. They didn't pass the Twilitmus test. ;-)

Twilitmus Test! I am posting that in my Twilight Terms post on Twilightmoms.

I don't really get people who don't like it either. Then again, I don't quite understand why I love it so much. What is it about these books that speak to us?

I loved experiencing that first love all over again. But it wasn't until NM that I became totally addicted and in love with Edward. When he left, I was so totally sad.

Then by Eclipse, it was taking over every single thought. Twilight is the gateway drug and Eclipse was meth for me.

Yup - Eclipse is definitely the meth. I read Twilight and New Moon both when they came out (2005 and 2006) and loved loved loved them - so much - but somehow waiting for the sequels was still bearable. And then Eclipse came out last August and I don't know what happened to me! All of a sudden I was rereading all of the books and putting off work etc - I went nuts.

I think the movie thing has added to my insanity as well.

It's gotta be the first love thing. And just the idea of the possibility of FOREVER with the perfect guy.

Oops, I deleted the above comment because I meant to post the link (but only posted the url):

see what awesome stuff we can come up with when we work together!

Twilitmus! Ha!

I love the Twilight terms! Thanks for the link, Kari! And thanks for the litmus idea, Corinne ;-) It's so true. It sets the bar.

Kari said...

It does set the bar. I'm not even going to talk to anyone new until they read these and report back to me.

Erin said...

Exactly. I'm going to start handing out little Twilight info packets on the street corners and donating copies for hotel rooms. Yay Cullen Cult! ;-)

My favorite Twilight Term is twipsy - so funny. So true.

Twipsy... very cute!

Yeah, it definitely sets the bar.

If nate hadn't read the books, it would have been divorce city.

i just got back from having dinner with a friend. She's a YA librarian, so i MADE her read the books... she said and I quote this: "They were pretty good"... I screamed at her in my head so loudly "PRETTY GOOD !?!?!- BITCH"

I did convert my sister though (my 24yrs old one) She went out and bought NM today cause she couldn't wait to for mine.

Aggghhhh! She's one of MY KIND and she only thought it was "pretty good"?!? :(

My sister (who's also 24!) read all three in February. I'm glad I can keep her in the family...
